Today the Real Futures Board made the decision to wind up its operations and disperse all funds in accordance with its charter. Tomaree, Hunter and Irrawang High Schools, together with Caring for Our Port Stephens Youth (COPSY), will receive the balance of remaining funds held by the Real Futures Foundation, after all operating costs and liabilities have been met.
This decision was made for a number of reasons. Firstly, the impact of COVID-19 on our sponsors meant that we could not guarantee sufficient incoming funds to support our ongoing operation indefinitely. Secondly, NSW public schools are now funded using a ‘needs based’ formula allowing schools to more effectively cater for the individual needs of their students. Finally, Real Futures has found it difficult to retain continuity in our Program Manager position. This person, working with schools, was the key source of inspiration for timely, innovative group programs and one-off linking of business and community people with schools to assist individual students at risk.
At today’s Board Meeting it was acknowledged that Real Futures has had a very positive impact on the lives of many students over the last 17 years. We thank you and your business that has supported Real Futures throughout this time by providing donations and in-kind support plus your energy and time.
Each school will receive $25,000.00 to use in ways that align with the Real Futures Mission Statement below.
To work closely with Port Stephens schools and their communities to implement responsive initiatives that support and motivate all young people, in particular those in most need, to engage fully in education, training and meaningful employment. Because of your generosity, youth in the Port Stephens area have benefited from abundant opportunities to learn, grow and excel.
I would like to take this opportunity to convey our deep sense of gratitude and appreciation for your support – you have made a substantial difference in the lives of individual students!
